Prosciutto di Carpegna PDO
a gem among European cured meats
Europe is a continent rich in food products with a great tradition. Such as Italian cured meats, known throughout the world for their quality, perfected over the centuries. Among these, Prosciutto di Carpegna PDO stands out as a true gem of European charcuterie, guaranteed by the protection mark.
The “THE EU GEM HAM: PROSCIUTTO DI CARPEGNA PDO” campaign, promoted by the Consortium Prosciutto di Carpegna PDO and lasting three years, benefits from co-financing by the European Union (Reg. 1144/2014 for the promotion of agri-food products) and aims at improving knowledge of this Italian excellence, which tells the story of a territory through a truly unique flavour in the United States and Australian markets.
In detail, the project has specific objectives:
- Strengthen awareness and level of recognition of the European Union PDO regime
- Increase the growth in the volume and value of exports of the testimonial product in the target countries
Why choose PDO European cured meats
Through the PDO designation, the European Union recognizes and protects those traditional food products strongly rooted in its territory and community. Currently, the reference community legislation is represented by EU Regulation no. 1151/2012, relating to quality regimes for agricultural and food products.
Italian PDO cured meats in general, and Prosciutto di Carpegna PDO in particular, respect the high-quality standards required by the EU.
Therefore, choosing PDO Italian cured meats means putting authentic food on the table, with certified quality and obtained with verified production processes. In this way, the PDO mark protects producers and consumers from counterfeit products and contributes to preserving the cultural and gastronomic identity of the territory of origin. In addition to this value of guarantee of certified and controlled quality for consumers, protected products are also an important support for the production system and local economies.
The values promoted by the PDO mark and the project “The EU Gem Ham: Prosciutto di Carpegna PDO” focus specifically on food safety, quality, traceability, nutritional properties and sustainability.
The Consortium Prosciutto di Carpegna PDO
The Consortium Prosciutto di Carpegna PDO was founded in 2015, to protect and enhance Prosciutto di Carpegna PDO, a product that belongs to the elite of Italian cured meats.
Its historicity, its organoleptic characteristics, its breeding and production methods are the aspects that have earned it the Protected Designation of Origin since 1996.
The protection work of the Consortium allows it to guarantee and maintain the high-quality standards of a ham whose origins date back to 1400. Furthermore, the Consortium associates the most important production realities of this PDO and also operates and monitor the entire production chain in order to contrast abuse, imitations, acts of piracy and counterfeiting on the national territory and beyond. The Consortium promotes programs to improve the quality of production in terms of health and hygiene safety, chemical, physical, organoleptic and nutritional characteristics of the protected product.
